Woensdagochtend om 6:05 heb ik de metro genomen richting Valencia. Vandaag staat op de planning om vóór zonsopkomst bij Ciudad de las Artes y las Ciencias te zijn. Om daar foto’s te kunnen maken zowel voor als tijdens de zonsopgang. Nadat ik daar flink de kou heb getrotseerd en een paar uur heb rondgelopen, ben ik weer teruggegaan richting het centrum.
In het centrum ben ik even gaan opwarmen bij Starbucks met een lekkere cappuccino en een eggsandwich. Nadat ik weer opgewarmd was, ben ik naar Mercado Central gelopen, de oudste overdekte markt van Europa. Hier halen de inwoners van Valencia dagelijks hun verse producten zoals vlees, vis, groente, kruiden en fruit.
Vervolgens ben ik naar La Lonja de la Seda gelopen, gelegen tegenover Mercado Central. Dit gebouw had in de Gouden Eeuw meerdere functies, waaronder een zijdebeurs, locatie voor het zeetribunaal en een gevangenis in de grote toren. Dit complex is gratis te bezoeken met de Valencia Tourist Card.
Na La Lonja de la Seda ben ik richting Torres de Serranos gelopen, een van de 12 poorten die vroeger in de oude stadsmuur van Valencia zaten. Torres de Serranos is ook gratis te bezoeken met de Valencia Tourist Card.
Vanuit Torres de Serranos ben ik over Plaça de la Virgen en Plaza de la Reina teruggelopen richting het centraal station. In de buurt daarvan ligt ook Mercat de Colón. Vroeger werd Mercat de Colón gebruikt als centrale markt. In 2003 is het omgebouwd tot een markthal met barretjes en restaurants.
Na bijna 16 km te hebben gelopen, heb ik rond 16:00 uur de metro terug naar de camperplaats genomen.
Second day in Valencia
On Wednesday morning at 6:05, I took the metro towards Valencia. Today’s plan is to be at Ciudad de las Artes y las Ciencias before sunrise to capture photos both before and during the sunrise. After enduring the cold and wandering around for a few hours, I returned towards the city center.
In the center, I took a break at Starbucks to warm up with a delicious cappuccino and an eggsandwich. Once I was warmed up, I walked to Mercado Central, the oldest covered market in Europe. Here, the residents of Valencia daily get their fresh products such as meat, fish, vegetables, herbs, and fruits.
Afterwards, I walked to La Lonja de la Seda, located opposite Mercado Central. This building had multiple functions during the Golden Age, including a silk exchange, a venue for the maritime tribunal, and a prison in the tall tower. This complex is free to visit with the Valencia Tourist Card.
Following La Lonja de la Seda, I walked towards Torres de Serranos, one of the 12 gates that used to be in the old city wall of Valencia. Torres de Serranos is also free to visit with the Valencia Tourist Card.
From Torres de Serranos, I walked back towards the central station via Plaça de la Virgen and Plaza de la Reina. In the vicinity, you’ll find Mercat de Colón. Formerly used as a central market, it was transformed into a market hall with bars and restaurants in 2003.
After covering nearly 16 km, around 4:00 PM, I took the metro back to the camper site.
