Dinsdagochtend ben ik richting het station gefietst om de trein naar Cádiz te nemen. Vanuit Jerez de la Frontera kost een retourtje met de trein €6,80. De rit naar Cádiz duurt ongeveer 50 minuten en stopt op het centraal station van Cádiz.
Vanaf het treinstation ben ik richting het centrum gelopen, eerst over Plaza de San Juan de Dios richting de kathedraal. Momenteel wordt alles in de stad klaargemaakt voor het Carnaval dat een week later plaatsvindt. Vanaf de kathedraal ben ik richting de kust gelopen, over de boulevard richting Castillo de San Sebastián. Helaas is het kasteel gesloten vanwege renovatiewerkzaamheden. Je merkt dat verschillende toeristische plekken in deze periode in de steigers staan of gesloten zijn.
Ik heb de hele kustlijn over de boulevard gelopen tot aan de haven die aan de kant van het centraal station ligt. Van daaruit ben ik weer richting het centrum gelopen om de kathedraal van binnen te bekijken. Voor €7 kun je de kathedraal bekijken en de klokkentoren beklimmen. Aan het einde van de dag ben ik nog naar de oude stadspoort van de stad gelopen, waar het oude centrum zich scheidt van het nieuwe. Daarna ben ik weer terug gelopen naar het station om de trein terug naar Jerez de la Frontera te nemen.
Cádiz
Tuesday morning, I cycled towards the station to catch the train to Cádiz. From Jerez de la Frontera, a round trip ticket by train costs €6.80. The journey to Cádiz takes about 50 minutes and stops at the central station of Cádiz.
From the train station, I walked towards the city center, first crossing Plaza de San Juan de Dios towards the cathedral. Currently, everything in the city is being prepared for the Carnival, which takes place a week later. From the cathedral, I walked towards the coast, along the promenade towards Castillo de San Sebastián. Unfortunately, the castle is closed due to renovation works. You notice that various tourist spots are either under construction or closed during this period.
I walked the entire coastline along the promenade to the harbor located next to the central station. From there, I walked back towards the city center to visit the cathedral from the inside. For €7, you can visit the cathedral and climb the bell tower. At the end of the day, I walked to the old city gate, where the old town separates from the new. Then, I walked back to the station to catch the train back to Jerez de la Frontera.
